Guessing by the bumper guards I’d say a ‘73. It’s nice to see one out and about instead of sitting in a garage like my ‘71.

Plot twist, it’s just been MR2 bodywork with a Miata underneath the whole time . I removed the MR2 shell just for that pic.

Better yet, take your M3 and swap the chassis and body for that of a Miata.

Keep the seats and drivetrain, Miata the rest.

You’ll need a new custom plate, “M3ATA”

I’ve had it forever. It was originally bought as a parts car for a ‘72 but that car turned out to have more structural damage than I originally thought (I ran in to a telephone pole). It sat for a long time as I would either have the time or the money to work on it, but not both at the same time. But it’s at least nominally street ready now.

Notice that it also has the bumper guards. That’s because at some point in the past somebody must have crunched the front and replaced it with one from a ‘73. It also had the additional brackets that a ‘73 had. I replaced the fenders due to rust and damage .
